Driver caught out with missing trailer hub and wheels

The National Heavy Vehicle Regulator (NHVR) has shared details of an articulated combination found to be missing the hub and wheels from its third trailer axle.

The truck was intercepted by safety and compliance officers at the Marulan inspection station.

“The driver was completely unaware – but admitted to noticing the vehicle was operating on a lean,” the NHVR said.

“Parts of the bearings and linings were still smoking hot, so it’s likely the hubs and wheels had fallen off throughout the driver’s journey – creating a potentially very dangerous situation for surrounding road users.”

The NHVR also shared a safety message, “Drivers are reminded that if something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t. Please check your vehicle regularly and conduct routine maintenance.”
